Mumford & Sons to tour American Southwest by railroad
(CBS) Coming off of a stellar Grammy performance alongside Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons are kicking off a new tour in April. The Railroad Revival Tour will see the British folk-rockers play from California to Louisiana - travelling, sleeping and performing in vintage railcars.
Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will join the platinum-selling Mumford & Sons for the tour. The band says they want to pay tribute to country and folk legend Woody Guthrie by riding the rails and seeing the land like musicians of yore.
"The RRT is an effort to re-imagine that landscape, the experience of the journey, and to re-discover what happens in between destinations," according to the tour's website.
Traveling by rail might be uniquely appropriate for Mumford & Sons. Keyboardist Ben Lovett told Entertainment Weekly, "We have somehow yet to financially profit from what we do."
Tickets go out sale Wednesday at noon. The tour starts in Oakland, Calif., on April 21 and wraps up in New Orleans the 27th.
