CHICAGO -- Several people have been shot in Calumet City in the Chicago area, police confirm, reports CBS Chicago.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. in the 300 block of Campbell in the south suburb.

CBS Chicago reports possibly as many as seven people were shot. Family members tell CBS Chicago relatives had gathered at a home after a funeral when someone drove by and opened fire, hitting people on a porch.

One witness says he heard at least 20 shots. Shell casings were visible on the street.

One family member told CBS Chicago some of the wounded drove themselves to the hospital.

The Calumet City police chief told CBS Chicago the shooting may have been preceded by an altercation at a liquor store.
