LOS ANGELES (CBS/KCAL)  Police in Van Nuys, Calif. are searching for 7-year-old Edgar Contreras, who they say was abducted by his own mother Wednesday night.

Authorities say the mother, 25-year-old Ana Perez, took the boy from his aunt's home, and they believe mother and child are headed to Mexico, according to CBS affiliate KCAL. Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department said Perez pulled up in front of the aunt's residence in a black 1999 GMC around 1130p.m. Wednesday, June 10. When the boy ran out to embrace his mom, she fled with him, the station reported.

Baek said Perez has a "drug problem" which is why the aunt had custody. Investigators said they had gotten in touch with Perez who confessed to taking Edgar, claiming the aunt was not doing a good job of caring for him.

Police say Edgar is Hispanic with black hair and brown eyes, 4 feet 3 inches tall, and weighs approximately 50 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans, a red T-shirt and grey shoes, and was with Perez.

She, too, is Hispanic with brown hair, brown eyes, is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 115 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Edgar Contreras and Ana Perez, contact LAPD Van Nuys Division at (818) 374-0040 or (877) LAPD-24-7.
