More Good News For Hillary

Hillary Clinton has taken a 10-point lead over GOP Congressman Rick Lazio in the New York Senate race, according to a new poll.

The Newsday/TV station WB11 poll shows the first lady with a 52-42 percent edge among likely voters. Additional bad news for Lazio in the poll was the fact that his negative rating (38 percent) has exceeded Clinton's (37 percent) for the first time. The survey of 1,101 New York state voters had a margin of error or four percentage points.

The poll gave Clinton a slight edge, 46-45 percent in the state's battleground area, the New York City suburbs. Lazio had only a 5-point advantage, 48-43 percent, in his home base of Long Island.

Clinton led 69-24 percent in the Democratic bastion of New York City, while Lazio had a 51-41 percent in the GOP stronghold of upstate New York.

The survey showed the same pronounced gender gap found in other recent polls. Clinton had a commanding 59-33 percent lead among women, while the two candidates tied at 46-46 percent among men.

Earlier this week, a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University showed Clinton with a 50-43 percent lead over Lazio. And last week, a CBS News/New York Times poll gave the first lady a 48-39 percent edge over the GOP congressman. Clinton enjoyed an 18-point advantage among women in the CBS/Times poll.
