Montana Teen Confesses: He Helped Dad Burn Ex-Girlfriend's Dead Body

Lance Myran (KRTV)

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (CBS/KRTV/AP) A 15-year-old boy confessed Wednesday to helping his father incinerate the body of a  woman the father allegedly murdered a year ago.

Lance Myran also told the court that his father, Jay Myran, killed ex-girlfriend Gayle Brewster, 53, who was reported missing in May 2009. The teen also acknowledged that he knew helping his father dispose of Brewster's body was illegal, reported CBS affiliate KRTV.

According to court papers, Jay Myran claims he was in his trailer May 12 of last year preparing to hunt rabbits with a shotgun, when Brewster grabbed the gun barrel from his hand and inserted it inside her mouth, before the gun fired. The father told authorities he hauled Brewster's body outside and left it there overnight. He set the body ablaze in a barrel the next day, where it burned throughout the day with his son's help, according to the court documents.

Originally charged with tampering with evidence, a felony, the teenage boy pleaded guilty to obstructing a law enforcement officer, a misdemeanor, said KRTV.

The judge sentenced Lance to two years of youth probation and ordered him to live with his mother in Miles City, Mont. After the first year of probation Lance must be evaluated by a counselor and may be released from probation based on his evaluation.

Jay Myran, Lance's father, is set for trial in August on homicide charges. He is being held on $1 million bond.
