(CBS/What's Trending) - After hearing on Twitter how girls who were affected by the recent Mississippi River floods and southern tornadoes were going to don the clothes they were wearing for weeks to prom because they had nothing else, Sarah Jon Porreca and and Jennifer Rosen decided that they were going to give these ladies a night to remember.Using the clothes from their website LendingLuxury.com, an upscale online garment rental service, the two decided to open their closets and lend out prom and graduation clothes for free to any girl affected by the recent natural disasters."This was a perfect opportunity for girls to feel pretty and smile, even though they have a lot of pain right now," Rosen explained. "At least for one night, they can shine and have smiles on their faces."
Both Porreca and Rosen were born and raised in Florida, so they said they felt a special connection to the southern girls. Charity work was always valued where they were growing up, and they wanted to pass on the spirit of neighborly love to their fellow southern belles. In addition, a portion of all rentals from May 15 to June 16 will go directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help other victims in the area. "I think it's true what they say about true southern hospitality," Rosen said.
Ladies who want to participate in the free prom or graduation dress rental can sign up on the website or call the toll free number. LendingLuxury.com is also reaching out to many other disaster relief agencies to get the names and numbers of other girls in the affected areas. The inventory of the website tends to lean toward a younger female demographic, so Porreca and Rosen say there's plenty to choose from for that special day.
One thing that girls won't be able to select is Porreca's own prom dress, which she admitted she still has in her closet. "I feel sorry for the girl who would have to pic that: Sequence and fluff is not so in right now," she said laughing. "The 80s are coming back, but not that much."
