Cops: S.C. woman found bound in motel room after video texts

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. -- Police in South Carolina say a missing 22-year-old woman was found bound and unresponsive in a motel room Tuesday morning after videos showing her restrained were sent to her mother, reports CBS affiliate WSPA.

Police in Simpsonville, outside of Greenville, say the victim's mother received three video text messages of her daughter bound, gagged and crying on Tuesday morning. The mother contacted the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, reports Greenville Online, who determined the missing woman might be in Simpsonville and contacted Simpsonville police.

The texts were reportedly sent with the victim's cell phone, Greenville Online reports. It's not clear who sent them.

Officials located the missing woman's car outside a Motel 6, where they found her bound, unresponsive and alone in a motel room.

"They discovered the young lady lying on the bed, bound, gagged and sort of unresponsive; just kind of in-and-out," Simpsonville's Interim Police Chief Steve Moore told Greenville Online.

WSPA reports the woman is still unresponsive. Moore told the paper it's not clear if her unresponsive state could be drug-induced, and said hospital staff may conduct toxicology tests.

Police haven't been able to interview her so they aren't sure how she came to be in the motel room. They say the room was registered to another person, but they're investigating who the person is and whether the name is legitimate.

Police are reviewing surveillance video to determine if the person who rented the room could have also kidnapped the woman.
