Minn. hospital throws out stillborn baby with linens

ST. PAUL, Minn. A Minnesota hospital that admitted mishandling the remains of a stillborn baby says it hasn't yet reached the child's family to explain how his body wound up in hospital linens sent to a laundry service.

Officials at Regions Hospital in St. Paul said Wednesday that a "terrible mistake" led to the baby's remains being sent to the laundry service. Hospital officials say the remains had been wrapped in linens in its morgue.

Chief nursing officer Chris Boese says hospital officials are still trying to figure out how it happened. She didn't explain why they haven't yet contacted the family.

The boy was stillborn on April 4 at 22 weeks development.

Boese says it's too early to say whether any hospital employees will be disciplined.
