Miller Vs. Murkowski a Tight Race, Poll Finds
A poll out Wednesday finds that Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who is running as a write-in candidate in the Alaska Senate race after losing the primary to Joe Miller, is running essentially even with the GOP nominee.
The CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation survey finds that Miller has 38 percent support to Murkowski's 36 percent, a spread that is within the poll's margin of error. The Democratic candidate, Scott McAdams, comes in at 22 percent.
Miller's narrow victory over Murkowski - aided by Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Express - shocked the political world. Murkowski's loss and subsequent write-in candidacy has allowed her to cast herself as the insurgent candidate despite her family's long shadow in Alaska politics.
One thing to keep in mind: Polling in Alaska is difficult for starters, and when it involves a write-in candidate it gets even harder. It is not known, for example, if those who say they back Murkowski will actually write her in come Election Day.
