Mike Castle Says He Won't Rule Out Write-In Campaign
Delaware Congressman Mike Castle, who recently lost the state's Republican Senate nomination to Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell, says he isn't ruling out a write-in campaign for the Seat.
He added, however, that he "probably" wouldn't run as a write in, even though he's been thinking about it.
"I will consider it right up until the final moment... simply because I've had a number of people who've asked that I do that," Castle said to reporters on Wednesday, according to The Hill. He added that he was "hurt and stunned" by his recent defeat.
Castle's campaign has previously ruled out the idea of running as a write-in candidate, and the nine-term Congressman acknowledged yesterday that such a campaign would be "logistically difficult."
"I think automatically you have a diminished number of votes you'll get," Castle said, according to the Wilmington News Journal. "I'm not headed in that direction right now."
O'Donnell, who beat Castle in the September 14 primaries, is currently trailing Democratic opponent Chris Coons by 16 points, according to a new CNN/Time poll, which has 55 percent of likely voters supporting Coons and only 39 percent backing O'Donnell. The same poll projects that, had he won the nomination, Castle would currently hold a wide lead over Coons.
