Michigan to Probe Suspected "Tea Party" Fraud
A Michigan court has impaneled a one-person grand jury to investigate suspected fraud in nominating some candidates wanting to run on "The Tea Party" ballot.
Officials announced Wednesday that Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick would handle the investigation.
County Executive L. Brooks Patterson requested a grand jury probe. County Clerk Ruth Johnson, now the Republican secretary of state nominee, has said that at least one person listed as a candidate of "The Tea Party" has said he was nominated without his knowledge.
Last week, the Michigan Supreme Court decided that the group calling itself "The Tea Party" won't be allowed on the November ballot.
Republicans and tea party activists consider "The Tea Party" a Democrat-supported fake aimed at siphoning away votes.
