Michelle Obama's Brother On Family
Time was, Craig Robinson was best known as the head basketball coach at Oregon State University. But that's changing. His new claim to fame is he's the brother of Michelle Obama. CBS News anchor Katie Couric spoke with him.
Couric: Very few people know Michelle Obama as well as you do/ how do you describe her?
Robinson: You know, Katie, I describe her the way everyone else is seeing her right now; she's very poised, very smart, beautiful, she's my little sister. She's just what you see, its been really a pleasure watching her evolve in this role.
Couric: You all didn't have a lot of advantages growing up?
Robinson: No, we didn't. But you know, if you knew my father, you knew that was no reason to not achieve and not try and do your best; and what my parent's mantra was self confidence and hard work.
Couric: This whole thing must be quite a head trip for all of you; but particularly for Sen. Obama himself. How has he changed through this process do you think?
Robinson: You know, I don't think he's changed at all. I mean, he's always been this thoughtful, he's always been this charismatic. I mean, I had every reason not to like him as a potential brother in law; so I signed off on him many years ago.
Couric: What do you mean you had every reason not to like him? Just because you had high standards for your sister?
Robinson: Exactly; exactly. You know brothers are supposed to - they do all the due diligence on the potential-husband material and he passed with flying colors.
Couric: After this speech tonight, what one word would you like viewers all across the country to use to describe your sister?
Robinson: You know, there is no real one word. But my sister, if nothing else, is very sincere.
Couric: That's a good word.
Robinson: Thanks.
