(CBS) First lady Michelle Obama wore a vivid purple, one-shoulder jersey gown by Korean-American designer Doo-Ri Chung to Thursday night's state dinner at the White House, but as usual it bore Mrs. Obama's trademark touch.

According to a report in the Washington Post, the gown was from the New York designer's spring show but was modified to meet White House specifications.

Chung told the newspaper that a thigh-high slit was eliminated and a belt - one of Mrs. Obama's fashion trademarks - was added. The jeweled belt was made of chiffon and jersey in a deeper purple hue.

The first lady had a bare neck but wore gold chandelier earrings and a gold cuff bracelet. Her hair was pulled back off her face.

Mrs. Obama wasn't the only one to put her own stamp on her outfit. Tennis legend Billie Jean King reportedly wore black sneakers with her pants outfit and entertainer Janelle Monae wore her usual man-tailored tux.

The South Korean first lady, Kim Yoon-ok, wore a traditional hanbok in pink and white.
