M.I.A. has been hard at work on a new album, due in mid-April.

In an interview with Australia's Gold Coast Bulletin, M.I.A. said she's still working on the set, adding, "I thought I'd finished it. I finished it and then I handed the record in, like a couple of months ago."

The singer/rapper revealed she's been having issues with her record label, which she says told her that the latest material is "too positive" and that she should "darken it up a bit."

"It's like 'We just built you up as the public enemy No. 1 and now you're coming out with all this positive stuff,'" M.I.A. explained.

The British-born, Sri-Lankan-raised artist said she's taking her time to decide what the label's feedback means for her new music.

Her most recent full-length album, "Maya," came out in 2010. She has since released the track, "Bad Girls," which is up for a Grammy in the category of best short form music video.
