LOS ANGELES (CBS) Mel Gibson met with Los Angeles County Sheriff's investigators Sunday, but, according to a report, not about the domestic violence claims made by his ex Oksana Grigorieva. Instead, the "Braveheart" star told police that he's been the victim of an extortion plot.

Gibson's lawyers met with investigators last week and presented what they say is evidence that Grigorieva tried to extort money from Gibson by threatening to go public with her domestic violence claims and those now very public expletive-laced audio recordings released by RadarOnline.com, the Los Angeles Times reported.

During the interview Gibson refused to answer any questions about the domestic abuse and child endangerment allegations made by Grigorieva, according to Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

"He wanted to make formal complaint for the allegations for extortion and provide information to the detectives," Whitmore told the Times. "Detectives will investigate this wherever it leads."

Gibson's lawyers also told investigators that Grigorieva sought a multimillion-dollar payout when the couple split this year, law enforcement sources told the Times.

Grigorieva angrily denied the extortion claims to reporters on Friday and denied that she or anyone in her family were responsible for the audio recording being leaked to the press.

"Mel is lying," she said, according to the Times. "He is lying. There is no extortion. There's [are] no texts and no emails....I am fighting for my child. He's just a liar, and it will come in the court, just wait."
