Medical Marijuana Grow Sites Exposed on Web
The city of Boulder, Colo. Accidentally published on its website a map indicating the locations of more than 60 secret sites where legal medical marijuana is grown and stored there.
The map appeared online Dec. 29 as part of an agenda briefing for the Boulder City Council. It has since been removed
The story was first reported by Boulder's Daily Camera.
The map showed the locations of "cultivation centers," dispensaries and warehouses, all of which state law requires to be kept secret, in part out of fear that they might be targeted by thieves. The locations of dispensaries are available to customers who are legally authorized to purchase medical marijuana.
"The timing of the incident is fortuitous in that the council will decide at its Jan. 18 meeting whether Boulder should circumvent the open records act exemption for cultivation centers by requiring applicants for medical marijuana business licenses to waive their right to privacy," the Camera reports.
