McCain On The NY Times Endorsement
As you have likely heard by now, the New York Times endorsed Hillary Clinton and John McCain in editorials today. Many political watchers seem to think that while the endorsement is good news for Clinton, it isn't necessarily welcomed by McCain, since the Times doesn't exactly a hold a special place in conservative voters' hearts.
At last night's debate, Rudy Giuliani, who the Times blasted in its editorial backing McCain, seemed to take pride in the snub from his hometown newspaper. ``I probably never did anything the New York Times suggested I do in eight years as mayor of New York City,'' Giuliani said. ``I think there's a serious ideological difference.''
McCain, who defended the slumping Giuliani last night, has now responded to news of the endorsement. Here's what he told reporters this morning:
"In the case of the Romney campaign, which I understand is the one that is making most of it, in all due respect, I got the endorsement of both of his hometown newspapers," McCain said. "The Boston Globe, which is known to be liberal, and the Boston Herald, which is very conservative. We got the endorsement of all the people who know him best, in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. I appreciate anyone's endorsement."
