McCain: "I'll Win" in South Carolina
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After coming in second place in the Michigan primary last night, John McCain put on his game face and vowed to win here in the Palmetto State on Saturday.
"I'll win. I'll win here in South Carolina. And that's all there is to it," he said today.
"I feel we have sufficient strength throughout the state and we'll be working hard on a very big get out the vote effort, which we frankly did not have the ability to do back in Michigan. So, I'm confident that we will win here in South Carolina."
McCain is sticking to his "straight talk" message on the economy and jobs, even though it didn't work out too well for him in Michigan.
"I think if you tell people the truth, it's worth anything. I mean, what's the point in getting elected if you don't tell people the truth? And it's clear we said, 'look, there's great new jobs being created and here in South Carolina and in Michigan, the green technology, the experience I had at the Auto Show, that great new jobs are going to be created for the state of Michigan, and Michigan will lead the world again," he explained.
"I think most people in South Carolina know that some of the textile mill jobs are not coming back, but they look forward to working in places like the BMW plant, Michelin, so many businesses that are coming here to South Carolina because the governor and the legislature have created a business-friendly climate here in South Carolina. They've lowered taxes; they've got training programs for new businesses that are coming into the state. So I think people understand that they want you to tell them the truth and sometimes I tell them things they don't want to hear as well as what they want to hear."
