Massive Implosion Caught On Tape

In what's being called one of the biggest demolition projects ever in the United States, two buildings in the old Pillowtex complex in Kannapolis, N.C. came tumbling down.

The implosion was caught on tape.

Clouds of dust reached the skies and covered the streets as the buildings were crumbling.

Between them, they had about 1 million square feet of space, and officials of the D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company and Dykon Explosive Demolition Corporation say that made it one of the largest demolition projects in United States history.

The implosion was part of the transformation of the former Pillowtex complex into the North Carolina Research Campus.

A bleach manufacturing center and towel distribution hub were destroyed.

Pillowtex stopped its operations in 2003.
