Maryland Explosions: Two Packages Explode at Government Buildings in Hanover and Annapolis
HANOVER, Md. (CBS/WJZ/AP) Two packages exploded in Maryland government buildings Thursday, according to officials.
The first explosion occurred at the Department of Transportation headquarters in Hanover.
Officials say the explosion happened at around 1 p.m. Thursday, possibly on the fourth floor where the administration offices are. Three people were injured, according to CBS station WJZ.
A Maryland State House mailroom employee at the Jeffrey Building in downtown Annapolis was injured in a second explosion Thursday afternoon while handling a package. He declined medical treatment. The incident is being investigated by bomb squad officials, and FBI officials were on their way to join the investigation, reports CBS station WJZ.
According to one law enforcement source, the Jeffrey Building device was addressed to Governor Martin O'Malley at the Governor's mansion but was taken to the state offices.
