Man survives shark attack in Hawaii, posts video of injury

HILO, Hawaii -- A 27-year-old Kapaau man suffered a non-fatal shark bite when he was spearfishing off Upolu Point on the Big Island.

CBS affiliate KGMB reports that Braxton Rocha was bitten Sunday afternoon on his left leg by a 13-foot long tiger shark. He was able to swim to shore and call his fishing companion to come in.

The man was taken by ambulance to Kamehameha Park before he was flown by helicopter to North Hawaii Hospital for surgery.

Rocha posted a graphic video of his injury on his Instagram account (warning: graphic images).

"I just got attacked by a tiger shark!" he says while being carried on a stretcher in the video.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources says they did not close beaches because the attack happened in an isolated and remote area. However, people are reminded to avoid entering the ocean during brown water conditions.
