Man sentenced in wrong-way crash that killed NY detective

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A New York man will spend between four and 12 years in prison for a high-speed, wrong-way crash that killed a detective, reports CBS New York.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty says Efren Moreano of Yonkers, New York, was sentenced Wednesday in the February 2015 death of New York City Detective Paul Duncan. Moreano was driving on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh while drunk and high on marijuana at the time of the crash, according to police.

Investigators determined Moreano was going 105 miles per hour. He went the wrong way for two miles, forcing other drivers off the road.

Duncan was driving to work when he was hit head-on. CBS New York reports Duncan had agreed to work an early shift so he could come home and spend time later in the day with his 13-year-old daughter.

Moreano pleaded guilty in April to manslaughter, reckless endangerment and vehicular manslaughter.
