Man lived for a week with fiance's dead body, police say

(CBS/AP) - A 54-year-old Kansas man lived with the body of his dead fiancée for a week because he was praying for divine intervention to bring her back to life, say Wichita police.

Authorities were reportedly tipped off by neighbors calling out of concern for the 57-year-old woman, who they hadn't seen for some time. When officers arrived the man didn't want to let them in, but was detained after the cops smelled a strong odor coming from the house.

Upon searching the home, police found the body of the deceased woman in the bedroom, reports local station KAKE-TV. Police say the woman appeared to have been dead for at least a week.

Foul play is not expected, but an autopsy will be performed on the body.

Authorities said the man was taken to a nearby hospital for mental evaluation reports KAKE-TV.
