Making the Switch from Windows to Mac
When I think about giving up my trusty Dell laptop for a MacBook, I sometimes fantasize about how great it would be to have a machine that doesn't need constant virus scans. Or think about how awesome it would be to go through the day without being nagged by a Windows Update button. Or even daydream about a crash-free workweek.
Mainly, though, I worry that years of learning the idiosyncrasies of a Windows machine (ctrl-W! alt-tab!) will be gone and I'll be less productive because I don't know the Mac shortcuts. So even though I sometimes use a Mac for certain projects, I've never made the switch to full-time user.
In a recent column, the Wall Street Journal's tech titan Walt Mossberg tackles this very subject, and reassures readers that welcoming Macs into your life just aint that hard. Alt-tab becomes cmnd-tab, for example, and new Macs understand what a right-click on a mouse means.
If you're seriously contemplating making the switch, this article should calm your nerves.
