Maine police get hundreds of tips on unknown boy after body found
(CBS/WBZ/AP) SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Hundreds of calls and tips have poured in from all over the country since Maine State Police released details on the discovery of a little boy's body last Saturday in rural Maine.
According to CBS affiliate WBZ, investigators have pleaded to the public for help in identifying the boy, whose body was found alongside a dirt road.
Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland says the police command post has been moved from South Berwick to the state police barracks in Alfred where detectives continue to investigate new leads.
The death is classified as suspicious; autopsy results have not been released.
WBZ reports that officers are also checking surveillance video at several local businesses hoping to generate more leads.
Police said no one has filed a missing person report for a boy fitting his description.
He is 3-feet-8-inches tall, weighs 45 pounds and is believed to have been between 4 and 6 years old. He had dark or dirty blond hair and blue eyes.
He was wearing a Faded Glory gray camouflage hooded sweatshirt, a blue t-shirt, tan pants, and Lightning McQueen sneakers.
