Magic store owner made $560,000 disappear, can't escape prison
(CBS/AP) BOSTON - Harry Levy, the owner of a Medford, Mass. magic store, was sentenced to two years in prison for pulling an expensive trick on a longtime customer by stealing $560,000 from his credit card, CBS Boston reports.
The 61-year-old Lexington man was also sentenced on Thursday in federal court in Boston to two years of probation and was ordered to pay full restitution.
Lee pleaded guilty in April to charges of credit card fraud and making false statements.
The owner of Hank Lee's Magic Factory made 134 unauthorized charges on the customer's credit card, forcing the victim to put his house on the market and complicating his efforts to finance a new business, authorities say.
According to prosecutors, Levy initially tried to cover up the fraud by lying to federal investigators and submitting false records to the grand jury.
