(CBS) Tens of millions of smokers and ex-smokers stand to benefit from a new study showing that special CT scans can help prevent death from lung cancer, as CBS News has reported.

But the high-tech scans came too late for countless victims of lung cancer, which kills about 160,000 deaths a year - more than are killed any other cancer.
Among its victims are many celebrities - including members of Hollywood royalty.
