Lohan Tweets She Failed Court-Ordered Drug Test

Lindsay Lohan has confirmed on her Twitter page that she failed a court-ordered drug and alcohol screening.

In a series of messages posted late Friday/early Saturday, the actress said "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test."

She also wrote that, if asked, she is ready to appear before the judge in her case and face the consequences for her actions.

"This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions," she wrote.
Lohan also said, "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it."

Lohan described herself as "a work in progress, just as anyone else.

"I am keeping my faith, and I am hopeful....Thank you all!!!"

A person familiar with the case, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the positive test results for The Associated Press earlier Friday. The person declined to specify what substance triggered the positive result, which the source said occurred within the last month.

The failed drug test was first reported by TMZ.com.

The test result could mean a probation violation and more jail time for the 24-year-old actress.

In July, Lohan was sentenced to three months in jail followed by three months in rehab after violating probation stemming from a pair of drug and driving under the influence cases filed after two arrests in 2007.

She ended up serving two weeks in jail and another 23 days in an inpatient rehab treatment at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

At a hearing last month, Fox ordered the actress to attend psychotherapy, drug and alcohol counseling as well as random drug and alcohol testing several times a week. Compliance would allow her to return to unsupervised probation in November.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox had threatened Lohan with 30 days in jail for each probation violation.

A hearing would be conducted before Lohan could be returned to jail. Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said no such hearing had been scheduled as of Friday afternoon.

Lohan also tweeted her appreciation to fans for their support.

On "The Early Show on Saturday Morning," Will Lee, of HollywoodLife.com, said it looks like many of the things Lohan said about getting her life together was part of an act.

He told co-anchor Betty Nguyen, "Look, she's been acting since she was 8 years old, 7 years old. In some ways, you know, people talk about is she bipolar or have psychiatric problem? Maybe it's that she's been an actress her whole life and, in fact, that's what sort of bifurcates her life. She's an actress but then she has demons that really, really haunt her."

He added, "I think she does have a substance abuse problem and we can't dismiss that. And that's a huge issue. But, at the same time, the sort of prevailing mentality and the way a lot of young Hollywood lives in this sort of, you know, eternal summer camp with no adult supervision allows her to kind of live the life she wants without any consequence."

In the vein of consequences, many people have asked, "Where are Lohan's parents?"

Lee said, "I tell where you (Lindsay's father) Michael Lohan is, he is talking to a celebrity gossip site just hours after she admitted in the tweet saying if I had been in her life, she would not have tested positive. The mother, it's unclear. She seems to think that Lindsay doesn't have a problem and yet, obviously, repeatedly, this happens. So, the parents, I think the biggest problem for Lindsay. She doesn't really have strong parental figure. Look at Britney Spears, her father stepped into her life and she's back on track."

So will Lindsay face serious jail time for this latest test failure?

Lee said probably not. However, he added her career could really be in jeopardy.

He said, "Many people have had a lot of drug problems in Hollywood and they get back on track, they work again. Will Lindsay be able to do it remains to be seen."
