Life-size bronze statue of U.C. Berkeley crew coach stolen
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Police are investigating the disappearance of a 300-pound life size bronze statue from the University of California Berkeley Boathouse in Oakland, reports CBS San Francisco.
Officers reportedly responded to the theft Tuesday after the statue had been stolen overnight.
The life-size statue was erected in memory of Berkeley crew coach Carrol "Ky" Ebright, according to the station. Ebright coached the university's crew teams to three Olympic gold medals and other championships in the early 20th century, according to police.
The statue's value is estimated at $80,000, CBS San Francisco reported.
