Lieberman To Cheney: Watch Out!
Joseph Lieberman, preparing for his upcoming debate with Dick Cheney, warned his Republican opponent to watch out Sunday in Lexington, Kent.
Lieberman was greeted at the airport by more than 150 supporters, including Kentucky Gov. Paul Patton.
I feel as if this week is going to be like a boxing training camp, he said Sunday. We're ready.
Using the famous words of boxer Muhammad Ali - a Kentucky native - Lieberman said: We're going to float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Watch out Richard Cheney, I've arrived in Kentucky.
He admitted that his joke was not quite up to Ali's standards, but I'm trying.
Lieberman was in Lexington, Kent., Monday, and so he probably didn't get a look at the New York Times Metro Section, which reported that the Connecticut senator used to fiercely editorialize against the sport of boxing while he was a student at Yale.
In pushing for a ban on boxing, the Times reports Lieberman equated the sport to "gangland killings."
Lieberman's wife, Hadassah, mingled with voters Monday, serving coffee at a downtown eatery called Menu on Main. Visiting with a table of five gathered over coffee, she described her new job: I go around the country trying to convince people to vote for Al (Gore) and Joey.
Walking down Main Street, she made sure to pat five of the decorated, fiberglass horses spread about the city, a number she chose as lucky for the debate. Then she headed to Springfield, Mo., to campaign.
Kentucky with its eight electoral votes has been favoring Cheney and Texas Gov. George W. Bush in recent polls.
Lieberman arrived aboard his plane that he calls The Spirit, which was sidelined last week by an engine problem.
