(CBS) SILVER SPRING, Md. - Lawrence Wesley Joynes, a 54-year-old music teacher in Maryland, is charged with sexually abusing 14 elementary school students, CBS Baltimore reports.

Joynes is also charged with one count of third-degree sex offense, child abuse and second-degree rape.

Detectives say they have identified 15 female victims, according to the station. Fourteen of the victims were reportedly students of Joynes' music class at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring, Md. He has been a teacher there for 10 years and had been teaching in the district for about 27 years.

The station reports the alleged abuse occurred between 2005 and 2013 in Joynes' music classroom on school grounds. The victims ranged in age from kindergarten to second grade. The fifteenth victim is now an adult and was allegedly victimized in the 1990s.

In February 2013, a Homeland Security and Baltimore County Police child exploitation investigation revealed Joynes was in possession of child pornography. Further investigation reportedly led authorities to videos and images of children on his computer and other digital media in his home and classroom.

Joynes is currently in the custody of the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Detectives are asking anyone who has been a victim of sex abuse by Joynes and has not reported it to police to please call 240-773-5400.
