Latin Grammy Nods: Guerra, Sanz, Drexler and Domm In Lead
LOS ANGELES (AP/CBS) The Latin Grammy nominations are out and nine-time Latin Grammy winner Juan Luis Guerra and 14-time Latin Grammy winner Alejandro Sanz were in the lead with nominations in four categories each.
But the nominations, announced Wednesday at Hollywood's Avalon nightclub, spread the love between established artists and newcomers.
They also recognized new talents Jorge Drexler, an Uruguayan songwriter, and Mario Domm, the lead singer of the Mexican band Camila, who also were nominated four times.
The rest of the nominations spanned the Latin Recording Academy's multitude of genres from across Spain and the Americas, with three nods each to Camila, reggaeton star Daddy Yankee and Uruguay's alt-rockers, El Cuarteto de Nos.
The Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa Jr. says this year's awards competition had the most submissions ever.
The awards show is scheduled for Nov. 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. This is the third time the Latin Grammys have been held in Las Vegas; the 2011 and 2012 ceremonies also are to take place there.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on Univision.
