Lady Gaga asks for get well vids for Clarence Clemons
(CBS) Clarence Clemons, 69, known to fans of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band as "the Big Man," recently suffered a stroke.
News of Clemons' condition reached Lady Gaga, who collaborated with him on "The Edge of Glory" - he played the sax solo - and she asked her Twitter followers for help.
"Little monsters, my very close friend +musician on The Edge of Glory, Clarence Clemons is very sick. Can we all make some get well videos?" she tweeted Monday.
Clemons played on the studio version of "The Edge of Glory" and appeared with Lady Gaga during her performance of the song on "American Idol" in May.
The much-loved Clemons has had a prolific career in and out of the E Street Band. He scored a Top 20 hit in 1985 with the song "You're a Friend of Mine," a duet with Jackson Browne that appears on Clemons' album "Hero." At Springsteen concerts during performances of "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," Clemons often gets a cheer from the audience when Springsteen sings, "When the change was made uptown/And the big man joined the band."
