(CBS/AP) CINCINNATI - An Ohio honors student shot himself in front of a classroom of fellow students at La Salle High School on Monday morning is still hospitalized in critical condition.

A recently released police report detailing the incident, says other students began yelling as a 17-year-old boy pulled out a handgun in class before shooting himself in the head.

According to CBS affiliate WKRC, the report states witnesses say the teen "struggled to chamber a handgun, place it to his right temple, and discharged one round into his head."

The Green Township police report was released Tuesday as students returned to school the day after shooting.

Police say there were 21 other students in the classroom Monday morning. A teacher told police the youth struggled briefly with the handgun, then put it to his right temple and fired.

A spokesman for the all-male Catholic school west of Cincinnati says an all-school prayer service and discussion was planned Tuesday.
