Cornwell was 38 when she disappeared during a walk near her parents' home in north Georgia.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said in an e-mail Monday that officials used dental records to identify her, but he did not say how she died.
Cornwell had worked as a probation officer. She was on her cell phone with her boyfriend on Aug. 11, 2009, when he overheard a struggle after she told him she thought a car was following her.
The bureau plans a news conference on Monday.
