The Daily News reports that the children's grieving parents released a statement saying they wanted to celebrate their "beautiful lives" and not just mourn them.

Police say 50-year-old Yoselyn Ortega fatally stabbed the two kids in the children's Upper West Side apartment, before stabbing herself. Police charged Ortega, who is currently recovering from her wounds, with murder.

A third sibling was with their mother when the killings happened. Police say the mother returned home to discover her children dead and Ortega bleeding.

Ortega remains hospitalized under police guard.
