(CBS) NEW YORK - More than 300 people gathered at a Manhattan park on Sunday evening to remember the two young children who were allegedly slain by their nanny in the bathroom of their apartment.

Lucia "Lulu" Krim, 6, and her 2-year-old brother, Leo, were fatally stabbed on Oct. 25. Police have charged their 50-year-old nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, with both murders. Their mother, Marina Krim, returned with their 3-year-old sister to find the bodies of the two children in the bathtub and Ortega nearby suffering from apparently self-inflicted stab wounds to her neck.

Aunts Katie and Sarah Krim represented the devastated family during the candlelight vigil Sunday, which was also attended by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, the New York Post reported.

"We will always miss Leo and Lulu and think of them every day," Sarah Krim said. "Thank you for sharing in our heartache."

Ortega was charged with first- and second-degree murder Saturday while recovering from her wounds at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.
