Katy Perry and Russell Brand are Engaged

No more kissing girls for Katy Perry.

Emmet Mannion, a representative for Russell Brand, says the 34-year-old British actor-comedian has proposed to Perry. No wedding date was announced in the statement, issued Wednesday, and no other details were available.

That same day, Brand himself was quoted in Britain's The Sun as confirming the engagement rumors by texting, "It's true. Much love."

Brand met Perry, 25, when he hosted last year's MTV Video Music Awards and she performed.

Rumors of an engagement swirled over the holidays, when the two traveled to India together. Perry shared a picture on her Twitter account on Dec. 29 of the two in front of the Taj Mahal, writing, "He built this for me."

The rumors grew even louder when Us magazine reported Tuesday that the engagement happened during that trip, according to a friend of the couple.

The trip was a Christmas gift from Brand to Perry, according to the magazine.

Brand told Britain's GMTV in December that he was "ever so happy" with his new girlfriend, and alluded to wanting to marry and have children with the singer.

"I don't know, get married, you say? That would be good, isn't it? I want to have children - that would be good," he said.

Perry's hits include "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot N Cold."
