Katie Couric's Notebook: Ethan Zohn

(CBS)
Stand Up 2 Cancer has raised more than one hundred million dollars since it was founded last year. And we recently announced that more than 73 million of that is being awarded to five Dream Teams: researchers who share the goal of eradicating the scourge of cancer.

The doctors and scientists who work tirelessly for treatments and cures are heroes. But so are the men and women who stand up, and tell the world, they're fighting cancer.

I met one recently. You probably know him. His name is Ethan Zohn, and he won the third season of Survivor.

Ethan was recently diagnosed with a rare type of Hodgkin's lymphoma, and he's undergoing aggressive treatment.

He's blogging about it, posting video diaries, and serving as an ambassador for the Stand Up 2 Cancer efforts.

His spirit and energy are an inspiration to anyone battling cancer.

In fact, Ethan is a modern day profile in courage. Survivor is no longer just a show for him. It's his new reality.

That's a page from my notebook.

I'm Katie Couric, CBS News.
