Katie Couric's Notebook: Cabinet Retreat
As the Obama administration marks its first six months in office, the Cabinet will be heading across the street for a two-day retreat.
Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was quick to point out that is not a sign of panic - that every President since Eisenhower has called for a little bonding time with the top members of his team.
But it will inevitably include a conversation about what's working and what isn't.
As Congress heads off for its August recess, it's clear President Obama's deadline for a vote on health care will not be met and declining poll numbers indicate that Americans are not sold on his ability to fix the bad economy.
Cabinet members will try to rewrite the narrative that's been unfolding this summer. And while they may want to recapture the romance of the early days of the Obama administrations, ultimately they may have to settle for an unscripted reality show.
That's a page from my notebook.
