Kathie Lee Gifford: Taylor Swift crashed Kennedy wedding
(CBS News) Kathie Lee Gifford says Taylor Swift did indeed crash a Kennedy wedding last weekend - and that she saw her do it.
On the "Today" show Thursday, Gifford said she attended the Boston nuptials (the bride, Kyle Kennedy, is her step-granddaughter), and confirmed reports that the country singer showed up without an invitation.
Gifford said that Swift's boyfriend, Connor Kennedy, did not RSVP until an hour before the wedding, when he contacted the mother of the bride, Victoria Gifford Kennedy (the "Today" personality's stepdaughter), and asked if they could attend.
"He got in touch with her an hour earlier and said 'Can I bring my girlfriend?'" she explained. "[It was] a beautiful sit-down dinner that had been planned for months. She said very nicely, 'Please do not come.' Well, guess what? They came."
Gifford said the "Speak Now" singer and Connor Kennedy were asked to leave the nuptials "twice," and they did eventually depart.
"I was out in the hallway, she was waiting, standing around, and he came out and took her by the hand and they left," Gifford said. "So, I didn't know there was any drama going on at the time, until I spoke to Vicki."
But, she added, Swift might not have known she was comitting a wedding faux pas.
"I'm not sure she didn't know she wasn't invited," she told co-host Hoda Kotb.
Gifford said the mother of the bride was concerned that Swift's presence would detract from her daughter's big day.
"It's the bride's day," she said, "and that was Vicki's other concern. 'This is my daughter's day and I would appreciate it if you would not come.'"
Swift's rep, Paula Erickson, told the Boston Herald that the singer "was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there."
