Karl Costs Bucks $25,000

The Milwaukee Bucks were fined $25,000 by the NBA today for comments coach George Karl made about the Seattle SuperSonics, his former team.

Karl has made several comments on his former team throughout this season and last week called SuperSonics general manager Wally Walker "incompetent." In his first game against his former team, Karl guided the Bucks to a 101-97 victory over the Sonics on Wednesday.

A league spokesman said that Karl previously was warned about his comments regarding the SuperSonics and the fine was not issued because of any specific comment.

Karl coached the SuperSonics for six-plus seasons before he was fired following last season. As it became obvious the Sonics would not give him a contract extension, his relationship with Walker deteriorated.

After his firing, Karl signed a five-year contract to coach the Bucks. Throughout his career, he has been one of the more candid and outspoken coaches.
