Julie To The Rescue

As an assistant principal at two schools, Renee Theodore has a pretty full schedule.

"The school day doesn't just end at 3:15 each day," she notes.

Across town, husband Roger maintains a busy podiatry practice.

"With the paperwork and the dictation and meetings…he's an extreme workaholic," Renee observes.

At home, it's their 2-year-old daughter, Torree, who keeps them on the move.

With downtime at a minimum, the Theodores decided to build their home alongside the Barrington Hall Golf Club in Macon, Ga.

"It's very comforting, sitting out there and watching the people golf…but you feel like there's a time you want to get out there yourself…and we haven't been out there yet," lamented Renee.

After years of watching other people play, she figured she could use a little help getting on the fairway.

So Renee wrote to The Early Show, requesting that one of its anchors come to the rescue: "Dear Anchor to the Rescue: I need a baby sitter to watch my daughter so me and my husband can go out on a date. We have been married for five years and not once have we stepped out of our house and played golf."

And…

"Dah, dah, dah -- anchor to the rescue! I left my cape in the car," came the much-needed words of co-anchor Julie Chen. "Actually, it fell off as I was flying in."

A little later, Chen said to Torree, "I got all my instructions, so you come with me. Blow a kiss to Mommy and to Daddy."

"As Renee and Roger became acquainted with the clubhouse," Chen says, "I quickly learned to navigate their house."

"Okay," she said to Torree. "Show me where the potty is and I'll take you there. …Do the princesses go on the front? …Time for lunch!"

As Torree finished off her lunch, Renee and Roger prepared for their golf lesson with Larry Nelson, winner of a U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and current nominee for the World Golf Hall of Fame.

"I want a green jacket," Renee joked with Nelson.

"Terrific," Nelson said. "See how much you've improved? Very good. This is not an easy putt."

Though Renee was having a little trouble with her short game, Roger fared a bit better.

The Theodores were enjoying the lesson they'd longed for, with Roger shouting, "Masters, here I come!"

And, Chen notes, "I decided to teach Torree something I thought she'd enjoy."

"Guess what. …It's yoga time!" Chen exclaimed to Torree.

And Chen introduced Torree to yoga as Renee and Roger got more tips from Nelson.

Torree proved a quick learner, and for Renee and Roger, there may be no better ending to a round of golf than knowing home is right off the 18th fairway.

"Who's that coming?" Chen asked Torree.

"Mommy" "Mommy and Daddy! Hi Mom, Hi Dad!"

"In addition to their golf lesson," Chen points out, "the Theodores were each given a bag of golf clubs from Adam's Golf, and I was given a tote bag from Mahogany Mothers, which means I must have done a pretty good job."

On Wednesday, it's co-anchor Harry Smith to the rescue – along with The Early Show's home improvement expert, Danny Lipford. They'll be bringing some much-needed muscle to a couple's stalled home improvement project.
