Judge stabbed, officer shot in attack at Wash. courthouse
(CBS/AP) MONTESANO, Wash. - A SWAT team has a man surrounded in a house in Montesano after a judge was stabbed and a corrections officer shot at a district courthouse southwest of Seattle, reports CBS affiliate KIRO.
Police said that after receiving a call about a suspicious person at the courthouse, a female corrections officer from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office approached the person and a confrontation began.
According to KIRO, during the confrontation, a superior court judge was stabbed in the neck and the corrections officer was shot in the shoulder.
The attacker then ran from the courthouse and a multi-agency manhunt ensued. Authorities asked a local radio station to tell Montesano residents to lock their doors because of a suspect at large. Area buildings, including schools, were on lockdown.
Kathie Wilson, who works at a law firm half a block from the courthouse, said her office locked its doors after getting a call from her daughter-in-law who was locked in a school while picking up her child.
"Everybody in our area has called each other, locking down, we are all watching and waiting to see when everything is OK," Wilson said.
It is not known if the suspect had a gun or if the corrections officer's weapon was used.
The condition of the victims is not known.
