NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Joran van der Sloot has been the prime suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway almost from the moment she was reported missing - and that may have gotten Stephany Flores killed.

According to Peruvian police, during an interrogation after van der Sloot was arrested in Chile and extradited to Peru, van der Sloot told police "The girl intruded into my private life," according to the newspaper La Republica.

The "private life" van der Sloot is believed to be referring to is his involvement in Natalee's missing person's case. Police say that he told them that when he realized that Flores used his laptop and discovered his connection to Natalee's case, he flew into a rage and grabbed her by the neck, snapping it and killing her in his hotel room, according to La Republica. Coincidentally, the Flores is believed to have died on May 30 - five years to the day that Natalee disappeared.

"I did not want to do it" van der Sloot reportedly told police.

The confession allegedly came on the third full day in Peruvian police custody, and on the eve of a planned trip to the hotel in which he was to participate in a reconstruction of the events leading to Flores' slaying, Peru's chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra said.

Van der Sloot was arrested Thursday in Chile after he reportedly crossed the Chilean border May 31 in an apparent effort to flee Peru. He was transported back to Peru Saturday.

Van der Sloot's volatility has been well documented on true crime shows and tabloid TV ever since his name was connected to Natalee's disappearance. In one Dutch television interview he threw a glass of wine in a reporter's eyes. In another, he smashed a glass of water against a wall in a fury. He also he gained a reputation for lying - even admitting a penchant for it.

Another chilling connection between Natalee and Stephany's cases? Van der Sloot apparently charmed them both after meeting them in casinos.
