Jonylah Watkins Update: Koman Willis, Chicago man charged in slaying of six-month-old girl, denied bail
(AP) CHICAGO - A Chicago man has been denied bail on charges he shot and killed 6-month-old baby girl Jonylah Watkins, while targeting her father.
A Cook County judge on Tuesday ordered 33-year-old Koman Willis held without bail on a first-degree murder charge. Authorities accuse Willis of killing the infant March 11 while she was sitting in her father's lap in a minivan. Authorities say Willis was targeting the father, Jonathan Watkins, and seeking revenge for the theft of a video game console.
Prosecutors say Watkins was changing his daughter's diaper and she was shot when he lifted her to kiss her.
If found guilty, Willis could be sentenced to life in prison. Willis' defense attorney Rob Fisher says his client is "maintaining his innocence."
