JonBenet Siblings To Testify
The grand jury investigating the murder of JonBenet Ramsey is meeting again Thursday, reports Correspondent Rick Sallinger of CBS station KCNC-TV.
The adult children of John Ramsey from his first marriage — JonBenet's half brother and half sister — are being brought in to testify before the panel.
JonBenetÂ's 1996 murder remains unsolved and there have been no arrests or suspects.
The night of the murder, parents John and Patsy, brother Burke and JonBenet were in the home. John Andrew and his sister Melinda were not in the house, but that is who will reportedly now appear before the grand jury.
John Andrew is a former University of Colorado student living in Atlanta. He is not considered a suspect after an ATM photo showed him out of Colorado at the time of the murder.
If asked about his father he is expected to speak highly. His sister — Melinda Ramsey Long — is recently married and living in Virginia. She too speaks highly of her father.
Legal analyst Dan Caplis believes the grand jury has good reason to be interested in hearing from the Ramsey children.
"I think the grand jury has a lot to talk to them about. First, if there has been any abuse — sexual or otherwise — [or] was it a very loving family where JonBenet was never exposed to any type of violence or abuse," Caplis said.
The autopsy left open the possibility that JonBenet previously may have been abused.
The appearance of the children could be setting the stage for the Ramsey parents to appear before the grand jury, but so far there is no indication they have been called.
What remains unknown is whether the grand jury will issue an indictment. What is known is that it must finish its work by the end of its term on October 20th.
