The station said Araz Alali, spokesman for the D.C. police, stated that Lefeged was a passenger in a vehicle that tried to evade police at a traffic stop for speeding.

Lefeged and another passenger in the car are charged with carrying a pistol without a license and for the possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition, reported CBS DC.

According to Alali, the car's driver fled the scene, said the station.

Lefeged, 25,  the Colts safety entering his 3rd season in the NFL, is from Germantown, a suburb of D.C., said the station.

Colts team spokesman, Avis Roper, said on Saturday that the team had no comment, according to CBS DC.
