In a characteristic demonstration of confidence, Vice President Joe Biden today "guaranteed" Democrats that they will maintain their majorities in Congress through the midterm elections, according to the Washington Post.

"There's an awful lot of talk this year about the demise of the Democratic party," Biden said this morning at a fundraiser for Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski. "I guarantee you we're going to have a majority in the House and a majority in the Senate. I absolutely believe that."

While most political observers expect Democrats to retain the Senate, it is widely believed they may lose the House.

Biden also suggested that recent surprise Tea Party primary victories in states like Alaska and Delaware would play a role in motivating Democrats to remain politically active. "Maybe the best thing to happen to us lately is the tea party wins," Biden said. "Maybe it'll shake some of our constituency out of their lethargy."

The Vice President, who is famous for making optimistic political predictions , went on to say that while he understood the frustrations of voters who are "angry against whoever is in power," he was confident in the power of Democratic policy measures.

Democrats "have a heck of a record, a heck of a positive record to run on," Biden said.
