He was a senior producer (1987-89) for CBS This Morning and a producer for the CBS Mornign News (1987-84), covering the White House during Reagan's second term and George H.W. Bush's first term, as well as several presidential summits and the first shuttle crash. McGlinchy also was an associate producer for Face The Nation(1980-82) under the legendary producer Joan Barone and a desk assistant on the news desk and for Newsnet (now Newspath) when he moved to the Washington bureau (1978-80).
